Fair questions

Something else? Write to [email protected] and a person will answer.

What is an envelope budget?

The old cash-in-envelopes method, without the cash. When you're paid, you split the money into envelopes such as Rent, Groceries and Fun. You spend from an envelope until it's empty. Tally keeps the count for you.

Can Tally move money out of my bank?

No. Bank sync reads your balances and transactions so they appear in Tally. It can't send, move or spend money. Moving money between envelopes only changes your plan, not your bank.

Do I have to link a bank account?

No. On Free you add spending by hand, which some people prefer because it makes them notice every purchase. Bank sync comes with Plus and Family.

How do shared budgets work?

On Family, you invite up to four other people by email. Shared envelopes such as Rent or Groceries are visible to everyone. Each person can also keep private envelopes that only they see.

What happens to money left at month end?

You choose for each envelope: roll it into next month, move it to a savings envelope, or put it back to be split again with your next paycheck.

Which phones and computers does it run on?

Tally has apps for iPhone and Android and runs in any modern web browser. Your budget stays in sync across all of them.

Can I change plans or cancel?

Yes, any time, from settings. If you drop to Free, your envelopes and history stay; bank sync simply pauses.
